Times of India - Mumbai, September 17th, 2008

A sprawling hill plateau spread over 250 acres at Kharghar in Navi Mumbai will soon be auctioned. The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) will hold a global auction with a reserve price of Rs 2,000 crore to create a theme-cum-entertainment city on the lines of Hollywood, Disneyland and Sentosa Park in Singapore.

The location is right across the upcoming international airport and close to Kharghar railway station. The cost of setting up the entire project is estimated at Rs 5,000 crore and according to CIDCO managing director G S Gill, big players from across the globe are expected to compete for a share of the pie. He went on to say that the winning bidder would have to spend a minimum of Rs 2,500 crore on developing the plateau while using and preserving the scenic location.

The theme city will feature hill walks, ropeways, adventure parks, paragliding, rock climbing, a skyride, towers, a 'kingdom of animals, birds and insects’, a lagoon of aquatic life, galleries and museums, hotels and resorts, a health spa, multiplexes, a planetarium, state-of-the art studios, music and night clubs and parks for children.
