In a move that will greatly aid connectivity and ultimately bring sustained benefits to the region, civil aviation minister Mr Praful Patel stated that the Mopa airport has received ‘in-principle’ approval. The government of Goa has begun to notify Section VI of the Land Acquisition Act and this paves the way for the government to acquire land for the proposed international airport at Mopa, North Goa.

Chief Minister, Mr. Digambar Kamat has stated that the permission for acquiring land has been given and has also recommended that the Dabolim airport co-exist with the Mopa international airport.

There are two sections that have to be kept in mind- Section IV and Section VI of the Land Acquisition Act.

On 23 July, 2008, the government had issued two separate notifications for land acquisition, one for acquiring 74, 99,490 square metres of land for the actual airport on the Mopa plateau and the second for acquiring 8, 84,812 square metres of land for constructing an approach road to the airport. These two notifications were issued under Section IV (which means intention to acquire land). Once Section IV was issued, the government is required to issue Section VI of the Act (which means confirmation of decision to acquire the land) within a year.

By beginning to issue Section VI of the Land Acquisition Act, the government indicates that they are serious about starting work on the Mopa international airport. To this effect, it is said that work on the international airport may begin early 2010.

The presence of this international airport will eventually foster the rising value of the area and its surroundings.

News impact on Expat Properties:

Solitude Enclave, by Expat Properties, spread across 2 acres of residential land is a combination of Apartment duplex units – 2500 sft and Semi Detached Villas (ranging from 2100 – 2600 sq.ft.). Located near NH 17 and near towns like Mapusa and tourist hotspots like Calangute and Anjuna, the project stands to gain positively from the proposed international airport at Mopa since it is located just 22-25 kms from it.

The onset of the proposed international airport will bring in ancillary industries that will work in tandem with the airport. This will further attract development of infrastructure projects to the area.

Simultaneously, employment opportunities will arise and this will present good opportunities for people who want to rent space in close proximity to the proposed Mopa international airport as well as the railway station at Thivim (which is 5 min to Solitude Enclave).

Further contributing to the appreciation of the property is the Thivim industrial estate that houses industries from varied sectors. Trade activities would see a boost with the arrival of the airport and the industrial estate would see an increase in business. This industrial estate is located 7 kms from the property.

Looking at the positive impact that Solitude Enclave will have, investments in this project look set to bring in steady returns.
