Infrastructure is the important foundation stone that heralds in a lot of changes. Once infrastructure is in place, it paves the way for other developments to come in. Decisions taken by the government to upgrade infrastructure always attracts the attention of companies. Connectivity in the form of roads, rail, air, sea, helps to attract infrastructure.
The Central government will be setting up an industrial corridor linking Cuddalore-Chennai- Bengaluru-Mumbai. In the Karnataka section of the corridor, the cities that fall on the National Highways 4 and 17 (NH 4, NH 17) will be transformed into major corridors themselves.
Companies such as Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services Ltd (IL&FS), KPMG, Infrastructure Development Corporation Karnataka Ltd (iDeCK) and IDBI are among the 19 companies that have evinced interest in providing consultancy services to Karnataka on developing the proposed industrial corridors along National Highways 4 and 17 to attract investment and create employment opportunities for people in North Karnataka.
Cities along NH4 from Bangalore to Belgaum will be developed as a major corridor. Cement industries will be encouraged in Chitradurga, Gulbarga, Bagalkot, iron and steel industries in Bellary, Koppal and Tumkur. Automobile industries will be promoted in Belgaum, Hubli and Mysore.
The NH 4 and the resulting infrastructure in these places are bound to attract the attention of future developments.
The upcoming industrial corridor will see Chitradurga and Tumkur being transformed into major corridors themselves. Hiriyur is an important taluka that falls on the NH 4 and is located between Chitradurga and Tumkur.
As planned, cement industries will be set up in Chitradurga and iron and steel industries will be set up in Tumkur.
Taking a look at the cement sector, it must be brought to mind that this sector is currently on a growth path. Figures from the Cement Manufacture’s Association (CMA) state that between 2005 to 2008, average cement production grew 9.7 per cent and consumption around 10 per cent.
During April-May of 2009, this industry has continued to grow at the rate of 12 percent. This growth is because of rural segment and the investments in infrastructure.
The steel sector has been seeing increased consumption in the sectors such as infrastructure, rural housing and automobiles. According to the latest forecast of the World Steel Association (worldsteel), India is the only major economy expected to show a growth in steel consumption (2%) in 2009.
This news information has a positive impact on Expat Properties, which has a non agricultural plot project Mahika in Challakere taluka, located 24 kms from Hiriyur town. Looking at the industrial corridor that is to be set up from Cuddalore to Mumbai, there is bound to be growth in the cities along this belt. As Chitradurga and Tumkur will have cement and steel industries, they will be transformed into major corridors themselves. This will positively impact the Hiriyur taluka.
Seeing the Cuddalore to Mumbai industrial corridor and the growth in the cement and steel industries, the way is paved for appreciation to take place in Mahika.
